Sholing advanced in the Hampshire Senior Cup via a penalty shoot-out as Storm Brendan battered the brand new Hampshire FA Stoneham complex, where AFC Stoneham are now based.  For the second time this season, Ryan Gosney both scored and saved in the shoot-out, to set up a home tie in the Quarter finals versus AFC Bournemouth.

Team News: Marv, Byron & D-Dan missed out through injury & Alex Sawyer through work. This gave Dave Diaper an opportunity to call up Jordi Bond to the bench as well as Josh Carey & Joe Smith.

Despite 50-60mph gusts of wind and driving rain, the game went ahead on the new 4G surface, which was able to cope well with the rain, although most spectators had to huddle into the one covered stand, with many having no option but to get drenched pitchside. Ryan Gosney was the first keeper to be tested, but held on to the ball well. Stuart Green was causing AFC Stoneham problems running at their defence, but he saw his first two efforts go wide after he had done the hard work. A slip from TJ Cuthbertson nearly caught Sholing out but AFC Stoneham couldn’t capitalise on the mistake.

LEE WORT was looking sharp up front, having a couple of efforts go wide before unluckily hitting the post. However, on 39 minutes, he became the first ever goalscorer at this new ground when he rifled a shot across Tom Parker-Trott and inside the post, hitting the base stanchion and pinging back into play. Confusion reigned for a moment, but after consultating with the linesman, the referee gave the goal. This kicked the game into life with AFC Stoneham squandering another chance when Tom Hogan should have equalised. Stuart Green thought he had doubled Sholing’s lead but again the ball struck the upright. HT 0-1

Dave Diaper made a substitution for the restart, replacing James Lauder with Jack Nicholas. Wind continued to play a part, but Owen Royl was winning the midfield battles and Stuart Green was enjoying the space he was creating running at the home defence, but couldn’t force the 2nd goal. Jimenez, fresh off the bench, injected some pace into AFC Stoneham, firing a shot across the face of Ryan Gosney’s goal.  On 79 minutes Edu Jimenez fired in AFC Stoneham's equaliser with a long range shot that dipped and swerved in the wind and found the top corner. Both sides continued to look for the winner, but it was penalties to decide the tie. FT 1-1

Scott Hills scored for Stoneham, with Stuart Green levelling it up. Edu Jimenez stepped up and saw his spot kick saved by Ryan Gosney, who then took a spot kick of his own and scored to put Sholing in front. James Parker-Trott, Jake Hoole, Cal Laycock, TJ Cuthbertson & Charlie Rattley all scored, leaving Owen Roundell to fire in the winning penalty.  FT 1-1 (4-5 Penalties)
