Team News: Mick Marsh made a few changes, with Matt Brown rested, in came Lee Webber in goal. Youngsters Jude Nwachukwu, Tobi Adenkunle & Kane Crisp were given a run out.
The game couldn't have started better for the Boatmen as we went in front on 5 minutes when a ball in from the left wing by Tobi Adenkunle, took a few deflections, but found the feet of DAN MASON with his back to goal, 8 yards out and he turned sharply and fired home. It was looking good for Sholing who were getting to the byline on either flank with relative ease, but the attacks started to peter-out and the game became more scrappy. On 14 minutes, Lee Webber did well so save an angled shot as the home side found their feet. Bashley equalised on 35 minutes after Lee Webber came out to the edge of his area and clattered into the Bashley striker, with the ref giving a penalty that was dispatched by MAKONI. Sholing won a succession of corners and freekicks around the box, but each time, the delivery wasn't up to scratch and the game was level at half time. HT 1-1
Mick Marsh made a change for the re-start with Mick Byrne being replaced by Stuart Mott in central defence. The Boatmen upped the tempo more and went back to exploiting the pace of Tobi & Jude on the flanks to stretch Bashley open. A move down the left on 55 minutes ended with a flicked effort from Dan Mason going just wide. However, a few minutes later and the same combination of Tobi into DAN MASON worked the trick as Dan turned on the edge of the box and found the bottom corner with a well placed shot. Kane Crisp went off to be replaced by Jess Walklin, making his first team debut for the Boatmen. Jack Smith went to left back, with Walklin occupying central midfield. Sholing should have put the game to bed a couple of times, but once again, Bashley hit back. On 76 minutes a sweeping move down the right wing ended with the ball pinging around the box before SPEECHLEY-PRICE hit it high into the net at the far post from close range.
Thankfully, Sholing didn't take long to re-take the lead when on 79 minutes, Jude Nwachukwu's cross from the right caused confusion in the Bashley box and the ball broke for ALEX BALDACCHINO to slot into the net. Sholing's last change saw Dan Mason go off and first team coach and ex-Bashley player, Stuart Hussey given a very... VERY rare outting! He went up front, but was directing play, hoping to see the Boatmen over the line for the victory. As it turned out, there were no late dramas or timewasting needed as Jude Nwachukwu picked up the ball on the half way line, beat three players before cutting the ball back from close range for an easy tap-in for ALEX BALDACCHINO. FT 2-4
We travel back to Bashley on Saturday for a FA Trophy tie. Kick off 3pm. A word of advice, take some boots or wellies when using the Bashley car park as it's a tad muddy.
