Boatmen comfortably downed the Planemakers in a one-sided Russell Cotes Cup first round tie. For the third consecutive game, Kevin Brewster ran the show, with 3 more assists and a converted penalty.

Team News : Due to illness, knocks and with one eye on Saturday's FA Vase game, there was a host of changes in the Sholing line-up.  Making their first team debuts were Duncan Brown at centre back & Rory Wood up front.  Jack Attrill came in at left back and Jack Hoole on the wing.  Despite playing 24 hours earlier in the epic FA Youth Cup win at Aldershot, on the bench were Harry Butler, Frazer McLean & Owen Royl.

Fol001

The game had been switched to the Universal Stadium after Follands had issues with their floodlights and it was lights out for the Hamble based club as the Boatmen raced into a 5 goal lead within the first 30 minutes.  The opening goal was deja-vu for anyone who had watched Sholing recently as a Kevin Brewster corner found BYRON MASON in the middle of the 6 yard box to easily head home.

Brewy was provider again on 12 minutes as his low ball from the right found the arriving JACK ATTRILL who ghosted into the box from the left to score.  Sholing were swarming all over Follands, who had no answer to the overlapping play down the right and this time TJ picked out BYRON MASON with a low cross that the skipper slotted in. Jake Hoole was tripped inside the box on 25 mins, allowing KEVIN BREWSTER to rifle in the penalty to make it 4-0.

It was soon 5-0 as, once again, Sholing's quick passing and pace had the Follands defence pulled all over the shop, with TJ getting his second assist when his cross found RORY WOOD to sidefoot in on his debut.   It could have been many more before half time, with Byron almost grabbing a hat-trick and the Follands penalty area resembling a pinball machine at times.  HT 5-0

Fol002

Byron & TJ went off at half time and were replaced by Harry Butler & Frazer McLean.  Follands showed some spirit to have some rare attacks and even forced Jamie Bray into a save as Sholing took a little while to adapt to the substitutions.  As the game got to the hour mark, Sholing took control again and from an inswinging Brewy corner, it was chaos in the 6 yard box as 3 efforts were hacked off the line in a blur of action.

On 75 minutes, Jake Hoole cut in from the right wing onto his left foot and his 20 yard shot was pushed out by the keeper, but straight to the incoming RORY WOOD who slotted into the net.  Brewy thought he had scored when he smashed a 25 yard shot towards the top corner, but Dale Cole did superbly to tip it over the bar.

The scoring was complete on 86 minutes when a corner broke back to Kev Brewster and his whipped in cross was flicked home at the near post by HARRY BUTLER for another debut goal.   It capped a good night for the Development & U18 lads who came into the team and all did very well.  FT 7-0
