Dan Mason grabbed a brace as Sholing were made to work hard for the win over a youthful Petersfield Town side.

Team News : Byron Mason made a welcome return & would go on to get 90 mins under his belt. Was too soon for Brad Targett, but he did take part in the warm-up. Marv was suspended and Rob Flooks & Lee Wort unavailable.  Diapes gave a first start to Wayne Robinson at right wing back. Jake Cope on the opposite flank, with Dean Frampton playing in a back 3 and Dom Panesar-Dower in midfield.

Sholing started on the front foot and Dan Mason connected well with a shot inside the box, but the Petersfield keeper did very well to palm it over the bar.   Boatmen continued to have a lot of the ball, without creating much as the home side got more into the game.

Wessex League Divison One, Petersfield, took the lead on 28 minutes, working the ball into the gap down the right and a low cross into the 6 yard box was turned in by Mino Djaura.

Dan Mason glanced a header narrowly over & Conor Whiteley had a shot comfortably saved, but our set piece delivery wasn't the best as the home side defended well and their youthful energy was making things difficult for us.  HT 1-0

Greener & Wags came on for the second half and a much increased tempo and better ball retention pinned Petersfield back and we scored twice inside 5 minutes.  On 51 mins, Conor Whiteley found DAN MASON on the edge of the box, D-Dan spun and his low curling shot beat the keeper and nestled just inside the far post.

Dan then turned provider when his ball in from the left towards the near post found STU GREEN who got a toe to the ball before the keeper to flick it past him.

We let the tempo drop after that and some of the tiring Petersfield players were replaced with fresh legs and seized back some of the impetus, although Gos wasn't called into serious action.

Jake Cope burst into the box and his effort was well saved round his near post by Greenfield.  We made sure of the win 2 minutes into added time when Copey freed DAN MASON on the right of goal, he had teammates square for a tap-in, but his striker's instincts took over and Dan drilled a perfect shot across the keeper and inside the far post.

Game was a much tougher test than it appeared on paper and credit to the Petersfield side for their performance.  Sholing advance into the 3rd Round of the Hampshire Senior Cup . FT 1-3
