Lee Wort made it 16 goals in 10 games this season, with his 3rd hat-trick of the campaign as Sholing advanced in a competitive Southampton Senior Cup tie versus Wessex Div1 side, Millbrook.

Team News : Ryan Cluett, Wayne Robinson & Dean Frampton came into the starting line-up.  Brad Targett made a welcome return to the bench after a month out.   Millbrook (formally Bush Hill FC), had some familiar names in their line up, including former Boatmen, Jude Nwachukwu & Ashton Goodger.

Temperature was dropping quickly as the game got underway under the lights in front of a decent sized crowd for this competition.  Boatmen were ahead on 7 mins when Flooksy played the ball through for LEE WORT to run onto, his first touch was unusually heavy, allowing the keeper to just get there first, but he couldn't gather the ball cleanly and it fell back to Worty to make no mistake past the man on the line.

Was a competitive, high tempo game, with Millbrook looking a better side than their current league position would indicate.  They were swift in their attacks and good at getting players to link up with their forwards, but there was nothing to worry Gosney in the first half as an end product.

We doubled our lead on 27 minutes, Wayne Robinson burst down the left channel and into the box, firing a low cross that beat the keeper and RYAN CLUETT arrived at the far post to knock the ball home.  A good cross by Dean Frampton found D-Dan in the the middle, but his header looped over.   The remainder of the half was pretty even with the visitors continuing to play well.  HT 2-0

Diapes made 3 changes at half time, with Copey, Targett & Batt coming on. We upped our tempo another notch and soon had our third goal, when Brad Targett's effort was blocked, but fell nicely for LEE WORT to stab home from 6 yards.

Gosney made a good save with his heel, but we extended our lead on 51 mins as once again, Wayne Robinson put in a good low cross into the box and BRAD TARGETT did well to slide in and put the ball back past the keeper for his first goal of the season.

Millbrook didn't let the scoreline effect their workrate and confidence and on 59 minutes were awarded a penalty that Jude Nwachukwu converted to make it 4-1.  Dan Miller replaced Byron for the last half hour.  On 69 minutes, Jake Cope ran through the middle and fed LEE WORT on the left side of the box who opened his body to sweep his shot beyond the diving keeper and into the net to complete his hat-trick.

Millbrook forced Ryan Gosney into an excellent double save, firstly a curling shot towards the far corner was tipped away at full stretch and Gos was up quickly to then smother the rebound.  Sholing rounded off the scoring in the 85th minute when Cluett's inswinging corner was nodded down towards goal by Dan Miller, it appeared to be cleared off the line, but only to OWEN ROUNDELL to knock it in.

An entertaining, enjoyable game, in which Millbrook definitely played their part.  Good run-out for the Boatmen to help get last Saturday's disappointment out their system ahead of another big league game at the weekend versus 3rd place Frome Town.   FT 6-1

Next Game : Sholing v Frome Town - Saturday 15 October 3pm - Southern League
