Boatmen moved one step closer to a final at St Mary's Stadium by defeating Bashley with two first half goals in the Southampton Senior Cup.  A penalty from Lee Wort & then a close range finish from Owen Roundell, saw Sholing through.

Team News : Dave Diaper rested Dan Mason, Dan Miller, Marv McLean & Byron Mason, allowing Rob Flooks to return to the starting line-up, alongside Josh Batt and Dean Frampton at the back. Returning from injury for a place on the bench was Leon Baker. Ryan Gosney took the captains armband for the first time.  It was our 3rd game this week so far, meanwhile the visitors hadn't played since Saturday.

Sholing wore our away kit, with the red & white kit required on Saturday. An even opening saw Bashley clear the clubhouse with a freekick and then Lee Wort dribbling a shot through to the keeper.  Boatmen were keeping the ball on the deck and from a quick passing move, won a penalty on 15 minutes when Sami controlled well before being tripped in the box.  LEE WORT sent the keeper the wrong way to score his 22nd of the season and draw level with Dan Mason after 3 goals in as many games.

Flooks picked up a caution for a late challenge as the game was end to end with some good football by both sides.  Boatmen went close on 23 mins when a good cross from the right by Robinson was controlled by Sami, whose shot was beaten away by the keeper.

It was Ryan Gosney's turn to make a good save to his left from Lowe's close range shot.  The visitors then had another good chance to equalise, but Grange blasted over after a one-two.

Right on half time, we doubled our lead. Sami's corner dropped to Brad Targett, who had a couple of attempts at getting a shot away inside the box, but the ball arrived at the feet of OWEN ROUNDELL to drill home from 8 yards.  HT 2-0

The second half was less open than the first and its fluency not helped by a number of soft freekicks awarded by the ref to both sides.  A number of substitutions for both teams, also slowed the game down, which of course, with a comfortable lead, didn't bother Sholing.

Lee Wort showed great control to kill a long ball stone dead before setting up Jake Cope for a 20 yard curling shot that went wide of the far post.

And really, that was that for the second half chances as the game drifted. Brandon Chebby, a tall forward with our U23's, came on for his first team debut. Boatmen comfortably dealt with Bashley's attacks and even the ref wanted to get the match over, blowing his whistle dead on 90 mins. The win makes it 19 games unbeaten and our 3rd two nil home victory on the bounce.   In the Semi Final we will face Hythe & Dibden at AFC Totton's ground on a date to be agreed.  FT 2-0
