Boatmen suffered another heavy home defeat, this time at the hands of Basingstoke Town.  Two goals in either half consigned us to our 5th loss on the bounce.

Team News : Brad Targett returned from injury, but there were still a few players missing, including Jake Hesketh who completed his 3 game suspension today.

A muggy afternoon in front of a crowd boosted by a sizeable contingent who travelled down the M3, saw the game get underway and Sholing make a good start.  We were getting success down either flank, especially down the left where both Copey & Marv got balls into the box that were scrambled clear.  Then a nice link up between Wayne & D-Dan saw the No9 drag a shot wide.

So, it was extra disappointing that Basingstoke scored with their first meaningful attack after 10 minutes. Le Paih had time & space to slot the ball through an open Sholing defence to Bradley Wilson to skip past Gos and slot into the empty net.

We found ourselves 2 down on 16 minutes, again a lack of a challenge allowed Rowe to pick out Luis Le Paih in the middle of the box and he swept the ball home.

Ryan Gosney made a good save from a header and then his opposite number was involved in a controversial moment when he appeared to catch the ball a yard outside his box, but the officials gave nothing.  We had a number of corners, but the deliveries were poor, too often overhit going well beyond the far post.  HT 0-2

We had a good chance to get back into the game on 52 minutes when Brad Targett sped into the box and picked out Dan Mason in space 10 yards out, but his shot was saved.  Basingstoke were'nt going to pass up opportunities to score and despite a save by Gosney and a bit of pinball, Dan Rowe fired in the 3rd goal.

Remainder of the game was a tough watch for Sholing fans brought up on a team that would always fight to the end, but little of that was in evidence as the well organised and confident looking visitors easily scored a fourth when Ashleigh Artwell was played in behind and finished coolly past Gosney.  Our pride has been dented in recent weeks, but we have to dig deeper and quickly find a way back to playing as we can.  FT 0-4
