Man of the Match : Brad Targett

Brad Targett smashed a hat-trick as the Boatmen advanced in the Southampton Senior Cup. It was a momentus night for skipper, Byron Mason, making his 700th appearance for the club.

Team News : Theo Widger was given a chance in goal, as the match gave Dos a chance to cast his eye over some of the talented youngsters at the club.  Dan Miller made his first start of the season, but Dan Mason missed out due to illness, meaning that Byron started up front with Brad.

On the the first seriously cold night of the season, the opening of the game was predominately played in the Stoneham half and Brad thought he had scored when a far post header looked to be over the line before the keeper could claw it out, but the officials waved play on.  It was a bit of a shock when Stoneham took the lead with their first attack on 11 minutes, Jenkins firing in from the edge of the box.

Jake Cope put an effort just wide after good work by Jake Flannigan and then Anderson seemed to be bundled over in the area, but nothing was given.   After Copey was fouled 20 yards from goal, CHARLIE DAVIS stepped up and scored with yet another superb curling freekick.  His 3rd now in just 8 games for Sholing.

The Stoneham manager was sent off for something he said to the linesman on 38 minutes and had to be asked by the referee in the second half to leave pitchside and return to the dressing room.   Boatmen had been neat on the ball and dominated possession, but went into the break level.  HT 1-1

We took the lead on 51 minutes, sparking 3 goals in 6 minutes. BRAD TARGETT burst into the box on the right and smashed a shot through the keeper.   AFC Stoneham equalised straight away, an angled shot by Sampson into the far bottom corner.  A quickly taken freekick released Karlos Gregory down the left and he put in a pinpoint cross that BRAD TARGETT side footed in from 6 yards.

Dos made a few changes, Miller, Marv & Davis going off and on came Wags, Ryan Harfield & Jake Adams.  Byron went back into defence and Harfield led the line.

On 70 minutes, BRAD TARGETT completed his hat-trick with a great goal.  Once again, using his pace to outstrip the left back and drilling a shot across the keeper and just inside the far post.  That's 60 goals in 199 games for the 22 year old.

Fin Du Port & Sam Mould were given 20 mins as Flans & Copey came off.  Boatmen continued to create chances and on 85 minutes, KEANE ANDERSON broke the offside trap and was clattered down from behind for a penalty.  The Stoneham defender received a second yellow and Keano dispatched the spot kick with aplomb.

The AFC Stoneham goalkeeper pulled off a magnifcent tip over the bar from Jake Adams' curling shot, just before the final whistle blew.   Sholing will be at home to Hedge End Town in the 3rd Round, date to be arranged.  FT 2-5
